Katy Yeaw Branding + Website Re-Design

Branding, Web Design

2023

Katy is an artist and muralist located in San Diego who designs unique recycled art blankets made in the USA. Her playful designs can't help but bring joy into a space, whether it is in the form of a colorful mural or as her cozy blankets.

She approached me to re-design her branding and website, wanting to infuse that same joyous energy into her brand. Her former website was very light and minimal, functioning to sell her art blankets online, but not capturing the same essence of her designs and personality.

We decided to change the name of her business from "Butcher Press" to her name, Katy Yeaw, to highlight her as the multi-disciplinary artist that she is. I created an array of different design directions for her, from more modern emblems to more vintage hand-lettered versions. We were inspired by vintage clothing labels, and chose to work with the script font, which I hand-lettered and offered in a variety of formats.

For her website, we decided to focus on storytelling and showcasing her as the artist. I wanted to emphasize the significance of her recycled blankets and how they are made by a small, family-run USA mill. We highlighted the mill itself through video and imagery to showcase the care in sourcing and designing the blankets.

Katy also paints murals, and wanted to showcase her murals in a cohesive way with the blankets and some of her screen prints. By focusing on Katy herself as the central axel to the brand, we were able to integrate the various mediums of her art under one umbrella.
